The Joy of Doing Less But Better
Writing is hard. But then again, so is anything worth doing. It’s a cliché, but clichés endure for a reason — they hold truth. They are wisdom shaped by the steady currents of human nature through the ages.
We live in an age where speed, convenience, and efficiency reign over the slow, deliberate effort required for true mastery. But imagine if, instead of dithering — endlessly researching, jumping from hack to hack, book to book, and app to app — you spent your time working diligently, with focus and patience.
Now, think of where you could be if all that time were invested in mastering a few truly important things — whatever they may be.
I am not immune to the siren call of efficiency, but as I grow older, I realise that no matter how many hacks we discover, we will never be able to do or obtain everything we desire. Yet, I have come to see that this quotidian state is a blessing. When this truth settles, the despair and worry of missing out begin to fade, leaving space for peace.
You will experience only a glimpse of life — make your peace with this. But in this lies liberation: a contentment with life. Make your choices carefully, and let go of the many to pursue the few. Accept that choices must be made. There is no use worrying or complaining about it.
So, make your choices wisely and devote yourself fully to the few you have chosen, with deep focus and a commitment to mastery.
Enjoy the privilege of pursuing them with zeal, and let go of the endless hacks, systems, and constant jumping around — this is not living but fearing that you won’t experience all life has to offer.
The greatest loss is not in what you leave unexplored, but in failing to immerse yourself in what is already before you. Life is not measured by the breadth of experiences hastily gathered but by the depth of those truly lived.
Let go of the illusion that everything must be done, seen, or possessed. Instead, move with intention. Devote yourself to what matters. And in that devotion, find the freedom you have been searching for.
